DescriptionDifferent groups of people are involved in the promotion of accessibility measures within the college. From the more ground-up efforts supported by the IE office, to dedicated staff members, this process of student support
One example would be the Accessibility Office, which was set up in 2021. The office aims to serve student accessibility needs, and educate others on the importance of accessibility. Under the purview of Assistant Dean Cory and Annette, the office is the sole point of contact for students with accessibility needs, coordinating with different stakeholders to ensure all students’ accessibility needs are met.
Another big part of furthering the accessibility conversation involves advocating and educating. On that front, the office runs various workshops, educating the school community on how to be an ally for someone with access needs.
The work of the accessibility office is also supported by 2 Student Associates, Zahra and Kimberly, both from the Class of 2025. They help advocate for greater accessibility support and better communication, mainly for the d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing community. Through designing workshops on sign language, pointer guides that educate others how to engage d/Deaf individuals, they hope to promote a more equitable experience for the d/Deaf community on campus.
